Rafferty plays detective on an airline with a pregnant stewardess.
An airline hostess, who's pregnant, approaches Rafferty for help fearing that she may be contaminated with radioactive particles. In another case, an orphan who is also deaf, is financed by a fellow patient to have a vital operation.
The Narrow Thread, Rafferty helps two people — a pregnant woman who fears for the safety of her unborn child and an orphan who will become deaf if not operated on immediately,
On a plane, Rafferty is approached by stewardess Katy to help assess her chances of having a normal baby. She suspects that she has been exposed to some radioactivity while at work.
In the sub-plot, Rafferty puts orphan Dewey in the same room with Murray, a friend of his.
Dewey's need for an operation is hampered by a lack of funds, so will Rafferty be able to do something before it is too late?
