Lt. Krieg, in a Crab, comes into contact with a large biologic (a big unknown sea creature). After surviving the encounter, Krieg discovers small objects that lameness. Krieg sees these as valuable items, and plans to collect and sell them. However, his big mouth brings most of the crew into his scheme to profit from them. Soon the whole boat wants in on the possible profits to be made. But the gem may not turn out to be a gem after all.

To complicate matters even more, a UEO fitness inspection by Capt. Layton turns the boat upside down. Layton seems to find nothing right with the crews’ excellent performance, which, however, is hampered by the “gem” hunt.

Even worse, it turns out the biologic is not happy about seaQuest’s activities either. The seaQuest becomes imperiled over its “gem” recovery.

Episode Notes

Bob Ballard’s ending note:

Hello, I’m Bob Ballard from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Although the deep sea creature we saw on tonight’s show doesn’t really exist, recently we discovered an ancient fish we thought had vanished millions of years ago. It’s called the Coelacanth (Ed. "see-la-kanth"). Now the light these creatures create is called bioluminescent. It’s created by chemical reactions inside their bodies, and is highly efficient, and gives off very little heat. See you on the next exciting adventure of seaQuest DSV.
