SeaQuest is tasked to launch and retrieve a magma buoy they place in a volcanic stream; the buoy being designed by the mercurial scientist Dr. Raleigh Young. Once finding the buoy after it emerges from the lava flow on a small island, they come upon a small group of treasure hunters intent on finding Black Beard’s partner’s long lost buried treasure. Unfortunately, the readings from the probe indicate a volcanic eruption on the island is eminent. However, the treasure hunters don’t trust the UEO crew and think they are after their treasure and refuse the order to evacuate the island. SeaQuest’s crew's efforts to protect this group of treasure hunters imperils them all, as the volcano is set to erupt, destroying the island.

Episode Notes

Technical Consultant Bob Ballard’s closing statement:

Hello, I’m Bob Ballard from the Woods Hole Institution. Each year scientists are getting better at predicting when a volcano might erupt. Using seismographs, they are able to hear magma rock flowing into the magma chamber. They’re also able to accurately measure the ground swelling to as the chamber fills just before an eruption. With more people living on Earth each year, our ability to predict when a volcano will erupt will save many lives. Join us on the next exciting episode of seaQuest DSV.
