“Showcase ‘68” was a weekly music variety talent contest seen on Tuesday nights on NBC TV. The premise of the series was to “Showcase” new up and coming music talent ages 22 and under. The show aired from 11 June 1968 to 3 September 1968. Each week a panel of judges would vote on that nights’ talent roster and select a winner of the evening. There was a new winner chosen every week for 10 weeks. The 11th and final show was expanded from the normal 30 minutes to an hour-long show. This final episode had all previous 10 week winners perform again with the winner getting $10,000 prize. The overall winner was “Sly & The Family Stone” who had they very first single on the charts titled “Dance To The Music” this year that eventually peak at #10 on the Billboard pop chart.
