A group of young British men are despatched to the front line during World War I and face a bleak Christmas in the muddy and horrific trenches, without their families or any comforts. But as the sun comes up on Christmas Day, a lone German soldier appears in no man's land, carrying a football, and the most extraordinary football match of all time begins.
