Sigmund and the Sea Monsters

Sigmund and the Sea Monsters

Billy Barty and Johnny Whitaker star in a live action children's drama, "Sigmund and the Sea Monsters" about a nice sea monster who doesn't like his life with his mean sea monster family and moves into a treehouse belonging to two boys who befriend him. The series aired on NBC Saturday mornings between 1973 and 1975.
Three-foot nine-inch Billy Barty plays Sigmund, the black sheep of his family consisting of Big Daddy Ooze, Sweet Mama Ooze and brothers Blurp and Slurp. All of the monsters like to frighten people, except Sigmund, who'd rather be friendly. One day on the beach Sigmund is discovered by two brothers, Johnny (Johnny Whitaker) and Scott (Scott Kolden). They like him and decide to keep him in a treehouse near their beach home. Their parents are away and they are living with Zelda (Mary Wickes), the housekeeper, who is never quite aware of Sigmund's presence. Throughout the series the monster family is always trying to retrieve wayward Sigmund and rehabilitate him to monster ways. The boys are constantly protecting Sigmund from the monster family and from human adults. The series is produced by Sid and Marty Krofft. Executive producer is Si Rose and scripts are written by Si Rose, John Fenton Murray, Jack Raymond, Milt Rosen and Rita Sedran Rose. The director is Richard Dunlap.
