Show Tidbits
Daniel Graystone shares his first name with that of the humanoid Cylon Number Seven in Battlestar Galactica. As revealed in the episode "No Exit", Daniel was a model whose line was destroyed by Number One (Cavil) out of jealousy sometime before the events of the series. Though it's suggested to be too much of a coincidence, there remains nothing definitive to suggest that the Cylon was named or perhaps even modelled (this Cylon is never seen) after Graystone and given the timing and outline of events, it seems unlikely that Caprica will explore any possible connection beyond the name.

The series, which had been in development hell until just after the 2007-2008 writer's strike, was proposed as far as back as Battlestar Galactica's second season. The project did not materialise until Remi Aubuchon had shopped around a premise for a film involving robots in an allegory for slavery. Universal Pictures passed, but arranged for him to meet Executive Producers Ron Moore and David Eick. From there, Remi's concept was integrated into the Galactica backstory and thus became about the development of the Cylons.

The series is set 58 years prior to what is referred to as the Fall - the Cylons' attack on the Twelve Colonies, which led to an exodus by its survivors to find a new home. This, combined with the timeline of events given in Battlestar Galactica, would also place this series within the five years leading up to the Cylon War.
