Bing Crosby portrayed Bing Collins who was a former singer who left show business because the life was too hectic for him and his family. His new job of choice: electrical engineer.

However, Bing's wife Ellie wanted to make it big in show biz herself. Meanwhile, his two daughterss, Janet and Joyce were opposites of one another. Janet was a 15 year old who was boy crazy, while Joyce at only 10 years old was smart enough to be in college.

Bing found a way each week to sneak in a song while still giving sage advice to the audience.
