Years ago, the Akita Gin led an army against the demon-bear Akakabuto, finally defeating it. Since then, peace has reigned over the Futago pass, with dogs and men each leaving the other alone - until a monster begins slaughtering the humans. .Convinced this monster is one of the dogs, the humans plan to eliminate all of the dogs, prompting Sakura, Gin's mate, to flee so that she may bear her puppies in safety. Soon after delivering Gin's son, Weed, a dying Sakura asks an old friend named Smith to escort her son to his father, and Smith agrees. These episodes tell the tale of Sakura, Weed, Weed's journey to find his father (and not incidentally, to put a stop to the monster), also chronicling Weed's growth to adulthood and his developing friendships with various dogs he meets on his journey.
