In Welsh mythology, a woman magically comes to life from flowers. She take a lover but is unfaithful to him with another man. Adter her second lover murders the first, the woman is turned into owl as punishment.

In modern day Wales, a teenage girl discovers a set of dinner plates with an odd pattern of owls and leaves in the attic of the cottage she's staying at with her mother, stepfather and stepbrother during the holidays. She makes a tracing of the pattern and releases the curse of the Welsh myth, embroiling her in a love triangle with a local boy and her stepbrother.

Adapted for television by Alan Garner from his novel, The Owl Service.
