Aluminum foil starts as a large block of aluminum that must be thinned out many times. A large aluminum ingot is able to make 850 boxes of aluminum foil.
Snowboards are created from a thin sheet of wood, fiberglass and epoxy.
Contact lenses are made from small polyhema disks. Even though the process takes 14 steps, one lense can be made in 15 minutes, along with a fairly long hydration process.
