Takashi Tokura (Yuji Oda) is a brilliant surgeon with a rebellious streak, who is headhunted by Ando (Ken Ishiguro) to work at Izumida Hospital, famous for having assembled the best doctors in the country. Tired of the constrained ways of the university hospital where he was employed, Tokura decides to go somewhere where he will be properly compensated for his talents. On his first day at the new hospital, a critically wounded patient is rushed in. Tokura ignores the instructions of his superior to not treat the patient, and masterfully saves him. The patient is a murderer who was shot from close range by Detective Yukiko Mizuwa (Yasuko Matsuyuki). The story unravels the mysteries behind the destinies of Tokura and Mizusawa.
