Adventures Of Oky Doky

The series “Adventures Of Oky Doky” was one of the very first ever nationally broadcasted Children’s TV shows. It first aired on Thursday night, 4 November 1948 at 7 PM. The show was named after a 30-inch tall puppet whose name was “Oky Doky” as opposed to the spelling of “Okey Dokey” that is a more common use of the phrase. Oky was created by professional puppeteer Raye Copeland and Oky’s voice was performed by Dayton Allen. The puppet Oky was first seen on a local TV show in New York City called “Tots, Tweens and Teens”.

The “Adventures of Oky Doky” was set on a dude ranch where he would have a different western adventure in every show. Every week Oky would get into some kind of a brawl or fight but he would take his magic strength pills and then he could overpower all the bad guys. It was said that his magic strength pills supposedly contained real milk. Early in 1949 the show was renamed to “Oky Doky Ranch” and in March it became a twice a week show airing on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:45 but shortened from the original 30 minute format to a new 15 minute format. The last original episode aired on 26 May 1949.
