"The Late Late Show" is a live, one night a week chat, talk and variety show broadcast from Ireland. This show is said to be the longest continuously running talk show in the world. It debuted on Friday night,
6 July 1962 at 11:20 PM Ireland time on
Radio Telefís Éireann also known as the
RTE One TV network. The very first host was Gay Byrne until May 1968. The hosts that followed included Frank Hall from September 1968 to May 1969, Gay Byrne again from September 1969 to May 1999. The current host of the show who took over on 3 September 1999 is Pat Kenny. Gay Byrne having hosted this series for 37 years total has the record for hosting the same show the longest of anyone, anywhere.
In the month of December they run a special show for the Holidays they call
"The Late Late Toy Show". On this show they have the very big stars from around the country, the best toys of the year and some of the craziest and zaniest robots they can find. They also have amateur dancers, singers and all other type of performers appear on this special show. In 2006 that special show is scheduled to air on
Friday night, 8 December.
