Virginia Colt barges into the detective squad room at the 87th Precint. She is carrying a gun and a liquid substance which she claims is nitroglycerine. Ms. Colt then announces she is there to kill Detective Carella. It seems as though her husband just died in prison and Carella was the one who sent him up the river.

This episode is based on Ed McBain's novel Killer's Wedge. | In the novel on which this episode is based, the character of Virginia Colt is named Virginia Dodge. Perhaps the reason for the name change was that Dodge automobiles might have been a sponsor of the show. | The character of Captain Howard, officer in charge of the 87 Precinct, makes his only appearance in this episode. He was rarely seen in the novels on which the series was based. | Constance Ford would go onto play matriarch Ada Davis on the long-running daytime serial Another World. | Margarita Cordova would later play quirky medium Carmen Torres on the NBC daytime drama Sunset Beach. |

Meyer: There are 186 patrolmen attached to this precinct. Would you like me to account for all of them?
Virginia: YES! | Virginia: (to Meyer) Go ahead. Take a big gamble. Let's blow up the entire building. | Meyer: There are eight million people out there.
Virginia: And not one of them can help you. | Angelica: (about the man she stabbed) I hope the pig rots in his grave.
Havilland: Nice girl. | Angelica: Why don't you let me go?
Virginia: You gotta be kiddin', chiquita. |
