Josie Thompson and her roommate are on vacation at an upstate lake when her friend drowns as a result of a sniper's bullet blowing a hole in the friend's canoe. Since the roommate was an heiress due to inherit a substantial sum of money and Josie is poor, she decides to pose as the friend.
