Day 1 (“Black Monday”) of the L.A. Sheriff's Department 18-week recruit-training regimen is when “hell breaks loose,” says training officer Dwight Miley---as a recruit seen drifting off in class discovers. Later, recruits must do push-ups in business suits and recite the department's core values from memory, and a flustered recruit breaks down.
At the halfway mark of the first week at the training academy, the recruits receive an introduction to defensive tactics.
In Week 2, Recruit Class 355 is showing signs of weakness and Dep. Miley decides that class members can't work together, so he cracks down.
It's week three as one recruit defies direct orders and goes to Mexico over a weekend, which resulted in a physical altercation with a local gang. Meanwhile the rest of the recruits are given the privilege of wearing their uniforms for the first time, but that honor is short lived.
Drama at the academy is at an all time high as two recruits have a heated dispute at the shooting range, while another recruit has a life-threatening issue during defensive tactics and is rushed to the hospital.
The recruits are sent to vehicles training where they learn driving maneuvers, skids and high pursuit chases. A few recruits get sloppy in their actions and Deputy Miley lets them know that they are going to have to pay for it.
Deputy Miley decides to throw a pop quiz, but the surprise is on him when the class can't answer one question correctly. The drill instructors take away all senior privileges and the class must go back to day one of training.
In order to honor a fallen officer, the class participates in a marathon run through Los Angeles. However, with the next set of field tests a mere two weeks away, the realities of how risky the job is may just be too much pressure for some people to take.
An inside look at the training academy of the largest sheriff's department in the nation. For class 355 all hell is about to break loose on day one of the intense 18 week training process.
Season 2 opens with a new set of recruits for Deputy Miley and the other instructors to train. The LASD staff has many surprises awaiting for the first day, known as "Black Monday."
The recruit class is introduced to a team of instructors, known as the Cadre, who will be training them during the 18-week process.
