Jonah, a disruptive Tongan student shows off his break dancing skills; Deluded drama teacher Mr. G is disappointed while staging Anything Goes instead of doing a play more imaginative. Ja'mie, a self-absorbed exchange student arrives at school along with her own self promoted fanfare.
Ja'ime makes a statement on her first day of school. Mr. G welcomes in the new drama department era; and Jonah gives a minimal shot at modifying his behavior.
Mr G. looks for musical inspiration from a teenage tragedy. Ja'mie's eye is on a younger fellow. Jonah finds the breakdancing scene is large and competition is stiff.
Mr. G holds auditions for Annabel Dickson: The Musical. Ja'mie gets in a fight with her public school friends when she accidentally sends them a mean photo. Jonah draws pictures for a story he's writing in his Gumnut Cottage class, including an incriminating one of his father.
Jonah and his friends become mentors for a group of year seven students in exchange for the chance to perform their break dancing. Mr. G begins rehearsals for his musical based on deceased student Annabel Dickson's life. Ja'mie starts a student council, and the group requests that the school hold a formal.
Mr. G faces opposition from Annabel's parents about the play, so he changes it to Mr. G: The Musical; the last minute changes, however, result in undue stress. Ja'mie and the student council members find dates for the formal. Jonah gets teased for his Polynesian Cultural Appreciation Day performance.
Jonah returns to school from his suspension to find that he's banned from break dancing on school grounds. In order to raise money for the formal's DJ, Ja'mie and the girls decide to have a fashion show. Mr. G resigns when he feels that Margaret doesn't give the drama department the support it deserves.
With the school term coming to an end, the principal expels Jonah due to his disrespectful behavior toward the other students and Miss Wheatley. Ja'mie has to find another date to the formal when Tamsin cancels on her. Mr. G and his students put on the premier performance of Mr. G: The Musical.
