The worldwide popular TV series that first debuted in Great Britain on 5 October 2001 as "Pop Idol" makes its' way to another country. "Idol (Norway)" also known as "Idol: Jakten på en superstjerne is" debuted in Norway in March 2003 as one of the earlier European copies of the original hit series. After being on the air for over 5 seasons this talent hunt contest is still as popular as ever.
Norway's version of this series has allowed the singers to perform their own self-composed songs since the show began. The age limit was originally set to be from 16 to 28 but in the 5th season the maximum age was raised to 35 to allow more competitors to try out for the show. They have 2 hosts every season but few have lasted more than 2 seasons. They have 4 judges on their panel and they mostly change every season as well.
