Cultural References

Peter: “Man he aged faster then Kathleen Turner”

Oscar© nominated American actress Kathleen Turner (1954-) is featured in this episode as starring in the 1992 baseball film “The Babe” instead of John Goodman (1952-)

Peter: “Light it Brian.”
Brian: “Peter, I really don't think we should do this”
Peter: “Do it Brian. It's the only way I'm going to catch that bird.
Here he comes. LIGHT IT!”

The bird in question is none other then the Looney Tunes character “Road Runner” and Peter, with the rocket strapped to his back, is imitating the other famous character “Wile E. Coyote”

Cleveland: So I put in a call to my old batting instructor “Joe Torre”

Joe Torre (1940-) is the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers and a former Major League Baseball player. He played for the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves, New York Mets, and the St. Louis Cardinals. Upon his retirement as a player, he later managed all three teams.

Torre also managed the Yankees from 1996-2007. The Yankees reached the post season each year and won ten American League East Division titles, six American League pennants, four World Series titles, and overall compiled a .605 winning percentage.

Cleveland: “See this is exactly why I'm leaving. Nobody ever asks anything about what Cleveland's got going on but if Peter wants to put together a new A-Team or overthrow a British pub or recreate all the whole damn Star Wars movies I'm expected to jump on board no questions asked”

Cleveland is referring to the Family Guy episodes, “Brian Goes Back to College”, “One If by Clam, Two If by Sea” & Family Guy's versions of the Star Wars trilogy, “Blue Harvest” & the upcoming “Something Something Something Dark Side” & “Episode VI: We Have A Bad Feeling About This”

Peter: “Well I guess we're going to have to find a new Ringo”

Peter, Quagmire & Joe are dressed as The Beatles as they appeared on the cover of their 1967 album “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band”.
Peter is dressed as George Harrison (1943-2001), Quagmire is dressed as John Lennon (1940-1980) & Joe is dressed as Paul McCartney (1942-).
They wanted Cleveland to be dressed up like Ringo Starr (1940-)

2 time Oscar© winner, 3 time nominated American actor Gene Hackman (1940-) is mentioned in this episode.

Holt: “I gotta go get my dinner on. I'll come by later. Bring the new Dave. Live in Austin. Sick.”

This more then likely is a reference to “Live from Austin, Texas”, the 2007 release from former “Talking Heads” (1974-1991) front man, David Byrne (1952-)

Cleveland: “You Federline Jones?”

Roberta's white boyfriend Federline Jones bears a striking resemblance to Kevin Federline (1978-), the ex-husband of American pop singer Britney Spears (1981-).

Donna: “Cleveland, do you remember that song you used to sing to me? Sing it to me again!”
Cleveland: “No!”
Donna: “Come on!”
Cleveland: “I don't remember it.”

Cleveland & Donna sing the 1982 song “Mickey” by Toni Basil (1943-) w/ Donna & Cleveland substituting their names for “Mickey”.

Former Saturday Night Live comedian and current host of “Late Night” , Jimmy Fallon (1974-) is mentioned in this episode.

Cleveland: “Guess who's back in kindergarten?”
Donna: “Adam Sandler!?”

This is a reference to the 1995 comedy movie “Billy Madison” starring Adam Sandler (1966-), where in order to collect an inheritance, Billy has to repeat grades 1 through 12 again.

Cleveland: “Awww, which way's the bar Thing?”

The hand in the box Cleveland calls “Thing” is a reference to the character from “The Addams Family” (1964-1966)

Tim: “...with their electric cars and Regal Beagle and all”

Tim mentioning the “Regal Beagle” is a reference to the bar the characters Jack, Chrissy & Janet frequented often in the 70's/80's sitcom “Three's Company” (1977-1984)

Holt: “Yippee-ki-yay, mo...”

Holt says the famous line (minus the curse of course) from the 1988 action movie “Die Hard” starring Bruce Willis (1955-)

American country singer Dolly Parton (1946-) is featured in this episode as a baby supporting 2 of Dolly's biggest assets.

Robert: “...and Rerun's, what, in sixth grade?”

“Rerun” was a character featured in “What's Happening” (1976-1979) & “What's Happening Now” (1985-1988) played in both shows by Fred Berry (1951-)

Rallo: “Well if we ain't the black Brady Bunch”
Cleveland: “Except I'm not a gay architect and my wife's not sleeping with my son”

The 60's/70's sitcom “The Brady Bunch” is mentioned in this episode.
Cleveland's “gay architech” comment is referring to actor Robert Reed (1932-1992).
His “Mike Brady” character was an architech on the show, but he was not gay.
However, it was revealed after his death in 1992, that Robert was indeed homosexual.

His second comment is referring to the fact that according to the urban legend, Brady mom “Carol Brady” (played by Florence Henderson (1934-)) and eldest son “Greg” (played by Barry Williams (1954-)) had a sexual relationship while filming. However, according to both of them, Barry simply asked Florence out on one date. Florence declined.
