Analysis |
| |
For 2008 I thought that this episode was done very well, and it may be "Tougher in Alaska" for those Troopers who had the job resposibilities for enforcement of the fishing laws in Alaska waters. However with the number of Law Enforcement personnel around there were not the problems or trouble they had back in 1969, before the Big Oil money started flowing.
Fishing also was "Tougher in Alaska" back then as was "Hand logging" before the chain saws.
But Law Enforcement was REALLY, "TOUGHER IN ALASKA", in the early years of State Hood.
FACT: in the summer of 1969 there was NO Dillingham Police Department, there was NO Trooper detachment, in fac there had not been "A" Trooper at the Dillingham Post for six months prior to the "Fishing Strike" in 69. There were NO "high speed" patrol boats, there was NO Coast Guard boat around, There was only "ONE" lone Trooper sent down TDY from his post to "HANDLE IT". now that was a real 'TOUGHER IN ALASKA". as to how Law Enforcement "Handled it" back then.
FACT: The "Bethel Post & Aniak Post" in 1969 were manned by ONE Trooper each and at times the Aniak Trooper "handled" both posts, consisting of over a total of (100,000 sq. miles), not only the City of Bethel, but many other villages up and down the Yukon & Kuskokuim Rivers and interior. (Where they now have close to 50 Law Enforcement personnel with "support" personnel, (Jailors, clerks, dispatchers, Proscuting Attorneys,
social services, etc) handling the same problems, trouble you did as the "Lone Trooper".
Ask the wives of these Troopers how they "Handled it"?
