Summary of Crocodile Shoes:
This mini-series starring, written and created by Jimmy Nail (of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and Spender fame) follows Jed Shepperd (Nail), a Geordie who dreams of being a country and western singer. Jed works at the shipyards in Newcastle and he writes his own country music in his spare time. He makes cassettes for his friends and family to listen to and they all love them. Emma, his sister sends some of the cassettes off to several record companies in London. One particular company likes the music and Adrian Lynn becomes Jed's new manager. Jed enjoys fame and fortune as a singer and a celebrity and then packs it all in after accidentally killing drug dealer Snotter. But after hearing his song on the radio he starts plans for a second album.

Make way for Crocodile Shoes II. This second series sees Adrian finally meet his grissly end, and Jed is accused of murdering him and desperately attempts to clear his name. This sequel sees Jed's fall from fame, getting arrested and later jailed for possession of cocaine, assaulting a policeman and jumping bail charges and nearly getting killed by Warren Bowles and Connors.

Jimmy Nail is superb as a Geordie lathe operator cum song writer who tries for the big time. Pathos and dry humour (a Nail trademark) abound in a colourful and varied story which successfully mixes action, romance, mystery and music. The music, performed and mostly written by Nail, who also wrote the series, is excellent. It makes the story all the more believable - the soundtrack album really did make a singing star out of Jimmy Nail. North American viewers may find the Newcastle accents hard to follow. Read more

Recaps
2x1: Country Boy recap: The episode begins with Jed Shepperd performing live in concert and it's pretty obvious that he is doing well and continues to be successful. Jed is with his PA, Roxanne and is making music, he is mixing his new song "Country Boy". Jed moans about the fact that the Sunday Chronicle has not yet arrived from Newcastle, it was posted on Monday and its Thursday now! Roxanne apologies to her boss... read more.

1x1: The Tape recap: It's 6:30 in the morning and it's sleeting again. Icy water lashes down onto Jed Shepperd's window as he peers out of it. His hair hangs lankly around his craggy face and drips down his neck, but his mind is elsewhere. He has his headphones on, plectrum in hand and is strumming quietly on his guitar with a backing track playing in the background. When the alarm clock sounds, Jed gets up, takes off his headphones and puts his guitar down. He stubs his toe on his bed and cries out in pain... read more.
