“Chiquititas” was a weekday children’s soap opera also known as a “Telenovela”. The series had a little bit of everything to include Comedy, Drama and Music. The series aired in Argentina on the Telefé channel from 7 August 1995 for 7 seasons ending in 2001. This series aired in the 6 to 7 PM time slot and quickly became not only the number 1 show in that time slot but became a huge phenomenon. The series spawned 2 albums the 2nd became the 2nd biggest selling album in Argentina in 1996 selling over 250,000 copies. The TV series also spawned a Broadway style musical which had 60 live performances in Buenos Aires with over 200,000 having attended during its’ run.

In 1997 Brazil began airing a similar version of the show taped in Buenos Aires but with an all-Brazilian cast. Brazil’s version was seen on SBT TV and became one of their most watched shows. Their version of the series also spawned an album that sold over 1 million copies. In 1998 the original series spawned a 3rd album that sold over 300,000 and was the biggest selling album of the year.
