Great episode! Aquaman recast as a kind of goofy arrogant sort of hero, interested in telling tales about himself.
Anyone else? I think they repeat it Saturday morning. And I'll have the recap up sometime in the next 24 hours. |

I didn't even know they made a new Batman animated series. How is it? |

Well, you can read the first two recaps...
It's hilarious. Kind of a 60's camp Batman, but more... deconstructive? Is that the word I'm thinking of? You get to hear Batman's thoughts, he's got a sense of humor, it's got a more modern sense of humor. It's pretty stripped down: no Bruce Wayne, no Alfred, no Batcave yet. Just Batman and a hero in the pre-opening teaser, then the main hero for the rest of the episode. Tonight had a totally unrelated bit with Batman and the Atom taking on Felix Faust, and then when Batman's heading back by Batplane (guess the Atom took a modem or something), he spots something near Atlantis and gets involved, and then the rest of the episode is him and Aquaman.
Aquaman tonight was... well, have you ever read Hercules at Marvel? Aquaman was kinda like that. Big, sort of oafish, not very smart, very enthusiastic (I think he says "That's outrageous!" at least three times), very full of himself. He wasn't the SuperFriends non-entity, but he wasn't the Sub-Mariner lite of more recent years, either. Had the traditional orange-and-green outfit but a beard.
Weird: he was actually funnier than Plastic Man last episode, and Plas is supposed to be funny.
Check out the quotes posted, that should give you an idea of the humor we're talking about. And if you're a DC fan, it looks like it's got a lot of heroes and villains: at least two of each per episode. Looks like they got.. Deadman, Dr. Fate, Bwana Beast, Metamorpho, Wildcat, Fire, Red Tornado, The Demon, Royal Flush Gang, Joker, all lined up for the season so far. And we've already seen Green Arrow, Plastic Man, Fire, Blue Beetle, and the Atom, along with Gentleman Ghost, Gorilla Grodd, Kanjar Ro, Felix Faust, and the Clock King.
heck, the fact they're using Bwana Beast should tell you they got a sense of humor... |

I've never been the biggest fan of DC or its universe, although Batman tends to be the rare exception. I'll see if I can find the episodes online through a certain downloading format. |

Definetly going to try and catch up with this. I'm a big fan of dark, mature Batman, but that certainly doesn't mean there isn't room for a series like this. It makes me happy to see a new generation of Batheads that this series is sure to spawn

Well, it is on Cartoon Network, 8/7 central on Friday and then a repeat 10:30/9:30 central the next Saturday morning. I imagine they'll cycle through to repeats of the already-aired episodes pretty quickly.
This is... almost the 60s comic book Batman, with traveling to other planets (did that in the first episode), goofy villains... heck, Batman is doing the "tilt the camera on the side" vertical wall climbing in the opening credits. Whatever it is, it ain't dark and mature.
And I think Bat-Mite is supposed to show up later in the season.
The best part is they've got Batman as the straight man, and they're willing to turn every other hero into comic relief. Which if you ever thought Aquaman could be comic relief... well, that tells you they're actually pretty creative because they pull it off.
Lord knows what they'll do with Red Tornado next week. Probably turn him into a total Mr. Spock/Data type, taking everything literally and having to learn the "meaning of Christmas."
Best lines so far:
"Batman always has kryptonite!"
"Someone had it before you. It must have found a new host after the last guy was killed. Or… ummm… retired."
"Fluke, the most obnoxious dolphin on the planet."
-----
It's also weird/interesting because Diedrich Bader doesn't sound anything like he usually does. So if you can't stand him... he's pretty harmless here. |

Speaking of the Bat-Mite episode, apparently Paul Dini is writing it. So, I'll definetly be interested to see how that turns out |

As a long time Aquaman fan I was less than impressed by his portrayal, then again I'm still on the fence with the series as a whole...I want to like it, but I keep ending up with mixed feelings. |
