In the fall of 1944 part of The Netherlands is freed by the Canadians.
Anna from Zeeland meets the soldier Jim and they fall in love. Although the relationship is difficult to maintain, Anna succeeds in finding Jim after he went to Brabant to fight the Germans.
Maria from Breda meets Bob, she falls in love, but he doesn't. Before he leaves to fight the Germans, Maria finds him in the arms of another girl. After a couple of weeks, Maria finds out she pregnant.

2 :01x02 - Episode 2

Maria is brought over to a monastery where young women go to give birth when they are without a husband. Without Maria knowing it, she has to give up the baby for adoption, but when the baby is born too early, she still has to feed it, this without touching or seeing the baby.
Meanwhile Anna and her family are visited by Jim. They want to get married. Jim tries to convince Anna's Father, this is a difficult task, because of religious conflicts. Eventually Anna's father sort of permits it.
Later on, Joey arranges a meeting between Anna and Jim, because he heard Jim didn't get the permission from the army.

3 :01x03 - Episode 3

Oct/14/1991
Jim arrives in Canada and goes home. This, however, is not for long. He was dishonorably dismissed from the army and can't find a job. He writes back to Anna, but the letters are seemingly not received. Anna can't stand it any longer and Jenny will try to help her by visiting Jim. Anna is pregnant and doesn't want to stay home and so she leaves for Amsterdam.
Meanwhile Maria is trying to coop with the adoption, but it keeps getting worse. Until Liza pays a visit with her baby Jasper and she advises to seek a job.

4 :01x04 - Episode 4

Jenny leaves for Canada and when she arrives David is there to pick her up. At first Jenny seems unhappy and wants to leave, but David talks her into staying.
Meanwhile in Amsterdam, Anna, who is staying at Willet's, is close to giving birth and when her son is born, she desperately wants to leave Holland and go to Jim in Canada.
Over in Canada, Jim is helping out Eva with the restaurant and one thing leads to another and soon Eva tells Jim she's pregnant.
In Breda Maria is going insane and she kidnaps the baby of her employer.

5 :01x05 - Episode 5

It's 1952 and Anna still lives with Willet, they are raising Robert. Willet is having trouble with his health, but keeps this secret. He asks Anna to do some photography work in a hospital in Eindhoven. That is where she first meets Maria.
Maria is working at the obstetrics department and she found out who has custody of her child, who was adopted. She has hired a lawyer to try and get custody of her daughter. This seems to be hopeless, until the father of the family dies.
Meanwhile Robert is out camping with Willet and talks about his father, who he never met.

6 :01x06 - Episode 6

It's 1964, Anna is fed up with Robert and sends him to his father in Canada. When he arrives there and meets Jim's family, he unable to accept the situation and leaves to roam around in Canada.
Meanwhile back in Holland Irene wants to meet her real mother, but when she finally finds her she is disappointed at what she finds. She decides to look for her father in Canada, not knowing he died in the war.
At the embassy in Ottawa Irene and Robert meet and not soon after that they decide to look for Irene's father together.

7 :01x07 - Episode 7

Over in Canada Joey visits Jim. At first he doesn't really want to be there, but he has nothing else at hand, so he sticks around to help out in the kitchen. Eva is very sick and soon she passes away.
Over in Holland Anna still isn't over Jim, this becomes clear when she visits a friend she met during a photo shoot.
Meanwhile Irene is still not over the meeting with her mother and with a little help from Anna, she finds out what really happened during the war at the monastery.

Jenny has planned everything for the memorial in Holland, she has also arranged for Jim and Joey to be there. Anna does not know what she should think and when she sees Jim again for the first time, she sends him away. Soon she is sorry and less than 24 hours later, they decide to get married. At the wedding party Maria and Irene finally learn what happened to Bob during the war.
