A burglar breaks into a home and finds the dead body of a woman in the house. He beats feet out of town but not before he has his wife inform Inspector Maigret about the dead woman. When Maigret arrives on the scene, the occupants of the house profess ignorance of both the dead body and the robbery. It's up to the good inspector to get to the bottom of things.
