Ein Herz und eine Seele
is one of the most successful German sitcoms of all time. The show is about Alfred Tetzlaff (Heinz Schubert), who lives together with his wife Else (Elisabeth Wiedemann), his daughter Rita (Hildegard Krekel) and his son-in-law Michael (Diether Krebs) in a town house of a working-class district. Whether socialists, flower people or immigrant workers, creep Alfred has to beef about everything - his own family included.
The content of the show had a big conversation value. Everybody talked about creep Alfred. The network got protest letters for the content of the show and for the dialog - Alfred used words like 'shit' or 'asshole', which was a scandal back then. But the show was a big success and had at times more than sixteen million viewers.
The show was an adaption of the British comedy Till Death Us Do Part
, which run from 1966 to 1975 on the BBC.
With the second season, cast changes were made and actor Klaus Dahlen took over the part of Michael, while actress Helga Feddersen replaced Elisabeth Wiedemann as Else. The audience clearly did not approve of these changes, which lead to the cancellation of the show after four episodes of the second season.
