Teito, who is a former slave with magical powers, is on his way to becoming an army officer but his plans derail when he one day encounters his fathers killer in his school. Teito manages to not get caught by government forces but in the process he is caught in between a larger struggle between Verloren, the God of Death and "beings of light" sent by heaven to oppose him, also known as the Seven Ghosts.
