Lowdown

Former Sunday Herald Sun showbiz journalist and celebrity columnist, Adam Zwar (Wilfred, The Wedge), starts filming this week on the eight-part comedy series "Lowdown" for ABC TV.

Loosely based on events from his former career, "Lowdown" shines a torch on the life of a man whose job it is to feed the public’s insatiable appetite for celebrity gossip.

Set in the world of celebrity and tabloid journalism, Adam stars as Alex Burchill, the columnist of "Lowdown", which appears in Australia’s biggest-selling tabloid newspaper, the Sunday Sun. Alex interviews high profile celebrities for his column, some willingly – others not so. The readers love it! And the ailing Sunday Sun relies on Alex to pull a scandalous story out of his hat each week.

"Lowdown" also stars Kim Gyngell as the Sunday Sun editor, Paul Denny (Satisfaction) as photographer Bob; Beth Buchanan (The King, Neighbours) as Alex’s on-again-off-again girlfriend Rita Davies; Dalian Evans (The Wedge, Eagle & Evans) as Alex’s inept GP and Julia Zemiro (RocKwiz, The Wedge) plays Hope the sassy publicist.

With Geoffrey Rush narrating, the comedy promises to be fresh, fast and funny, featuring eclectic characters, roller-coaster narratives and plenty of conflict. Over the next seven weeks, "Lowdown" will be filmed at over 40 different locations, in and around Melbourne. The series will air next year on ABC TV. (Source: abc)

Episode Info

Prev: 2x08 -- Ben Behaving Badly (Oct/25/2012)

Alex and Bob have a reconciliation lunch with Ben Hollander, the actor-singer the Sunday Sun exposed taking drugs and having sex with a prostitute in a public toilet, but Ben has now turned his back on a life of philandering and is getting re-married on the weekend.

Alex is furious when he realises that Ben has ordered an outrageously expensive bottle of champagne and has left Alex to pick up the tab. Encouraged by the editor, Alex and Bob manipulate an innocent photo of Ben kissing a female friend into a full-blown story about Ben returning to his womanising ways. Alex approaches Ben's manager for comment. Ben's manager agrees to meet Alex and Bob, and then turns the tables on them both.

Meanwhile, Rita decides it's time to get a paying job and applies for work at a bank managed by swaggering CEO Clive McGann, while Dr. James and Gary ask Alex to move out so they can use his room for their new hair transplant clinic, and a wholly transformed Bob asks Sam to marry him.
