Richie, Connie's best mate at school, is a self-confessed nerd who wishes the world were a simple, harmonious place. For him, the supposed moral and behavioural precepts that he has learned at school and at home are thrown into question by the differing perspectives of adults to the reverberations of “the slap”. Confused by this, as well as being the only one who knows Connie’s “secret”, he inadvertently sets off a chain of events which bring all the tensions, familial and marital deceits, all the unspoken truths, onto a collision course.
