Breakout is a drama-documentary series which recreates some of the most well documented prison breaks in recent years. Desperate and dangerous criminals. Daring prison escapes. Go inside the minds of convicted criminals who dare to escape from some of America's most secure prisons and hear how law enforcement agents track them down.

Strategy, determination and focus are the main ingredients for planning a prison escape. Cameras and guards monitor every movement, and breaking out is nearly impossible — but for some, it is all they can think about. With nothing but time, some inmates are daring enough to test the system and wait for the perfect moment for a Breakout. Every action is thoroughly planned and thought out; security camera angles are tested for blind spots; blades are smuggled in hidden in books; a keen sense of smell leads the way through the dark to the fresh air outside; and the entire prison is examined for potential exits.

The new series documents the dramatic stories behind some of the most high-profile jailbreaks in recent history and the ingenious detective work that leads to the escapees’ eventual recapture. Each episode of Breakout is told from the combined points of view of the dangerous criminals who escape and the determined law enforcement teams who hunt them down.

Cutting through a cell’s ceiling, constructing a tunnel under the prison wall, making allies, smuggling tools and using the simplest materials such as toothpaste and candy are among the strategies the inmates constructed for the perfect Breakout. In these cases, once outside, the inmates can only run so far before they are eventually tracked down. Watch as law enforcement professionals outmaneuver and outsmart the escapees to bring them back to prison.
