The time to say goodbye to Ally McBeal and friends has arrived and a fond farewell to them all. Unfortunately the fifth season was the last series of "Ally McBeal", and probably the least satisfying. I'll be honest with you, as an avid fan of the show since it's first season, I was disappointed with this one. While always entertaining, the show struggled to keep its main endearing qualities going for another year. This in most part was due to the departure of many of the shows long serving cast.

After what turned out to be a phenomenal series 4, Robert Downey Jnr failed to stay out of jail long enough, to finish his much loved role on the show, as Ally's perfect love match, Larry Paul. The writers of the show were forced to think fast, and find a way to write his character out of the show. Things would have gone completely the other direction, had Downey stayed on for the farewell finale.

Nevertheless, with a number of new and fun characters added this year, including the 10-year-old daughter Ally never knew she had (sounds confusing I know. There is a story and explanation behind it). And I am happy to report that, every original character (still alive) from series 1, DID return for the emotional and fitting farewell episode. So all was not lost. Still a worthy collection to own, if only to finish what was a thoroughly enjoyable, hugely funny, and heartfelt show for four years prior. I have nothing but fond memories of this show. Magical, endearing, and original. Farewell.
