Recap

Three computer game wizards create a terror-filled computer game which threatens the entire city of Los Angeles with chaos, death and destruction if their ransom demand is not met. It's all the creation of Ronald Tilson, a revenge-seeking former computer expert for the city, who was fired for embezzlement after he helped set up much of the city's computer system. The others are Ellie Harmon and Bart Johnston, two very successful computer game creators.
Everything takes place while the three are attending a computer game convention at which Walter is also present. In fact, Walter takes this opportunity to introduce Automan to the trio. They, however, have far more on their minds. By taking control over the city's primary public service computers, they are able to create citywide traffic jams, and nearly cause the deaths of hundreds of commuters. They also take command of air traffic control and nearly cause a midair catastrophe when they've successfully blocked radar from seeing that two passenger jets are about to land on top of each other. Thanks to Walter and Automan the latter two incidents are avoided.
Finally, Automan gets a few tips from some of his computer friends at the game convention and is able to put together the evidence that connects the trio to the city ransom plot. In attempting to arrest the group, Harmon shoots a merged the Walter and Automan with an electronic game gun which throws Automan's molecules off, temporarily stunning him. The tow, however, with some help from an elevator, nab Tilson and Harmon and put them behind bars.
All is not over, however, as a ruthless Tilson refuses to divulge the last move in his fiendish game. As a panicky police department goes about trying to figure it out, Automan realizes that Tilson programmed the security computer to shut down and the air conditioning computer to escalate to the max, thus preventing anyone from entering the explosive storage room and causing the temperature within to soar to explosive levels. Discovering this, Walter and Automan (merged) remove a case of TNT from the storage room and rocket high into the atmosphere in the Autoplane where they allow it to detonate safely, saving the entire police department from harm.
