Tommy Dawkins is on a camping trip with his friends on the night before the first day of senior year. However, Tommy is bitten by a strange creature while wandering through the woods in the middle of the night. Unknown to Tommy, the creature that bit him was a werewolf, and when he realizes what's happening to him, he is forced to go to the school's outcast, Merton J. Dingle, for help. Tommy also finds that his new condition will make it much harder to win the girl of his dreams, Stacey Hanson.

A traveling bookmobile arrives in Pleasantville, filled with a collection of one-of-a-kind books. However, this is because the librarian running it can turn a person into a book simply by scanning their palm. Tommy and Merton, who link the disappearances around town to the bookmobile a bit too late, must find a way to stop the bookmobile before it leaves town. At the same time, Tommy is left struggling with the decision of passing the werewolf curse on to Merton in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

When Butch begins to execute his plot to make Stacey his, Tommy and Merton must find a way to put Butch back into the film and save Stacey, or else she'll be trapped in the film, for eternity...

The videotape directs them to a crack-dealer by the name of Maxwell Fong, who may have a cure to bring Merton back. Tommy and Lori use the antidote on Merton, and it works like a charm, until they realize the antidote is deadly as well when Merton begins to feel very weak. The gang goes back to Fong, this time ready to fight, and Fong decides to make them fight to the death...
