The Liberator encounters a ship adrift in space. After the team resuscitates the ship’s crew, they find the ship’s officer has been murdered. The reason revolves around a priceless device that is needed to save the planet Destiny. Avon and Cally remain on the ship to solve the murder, while Blake and the rest take the device on to Destiny.

Blake discovers he is on a fool’s errand, and Avon and Cally work through more murders occurring among the ship’s crew.

Episode Quotes

Vila: I don't like this.
Jenna: That's unusual.
Vila: Mock if you like, but I can always sense danger.
Gan: Even when there isn't any.

Avon: It is frequently easier to be honest when you have nothing to lose.

Cally: Remember that Avon and I will be staying. We will regard ourselves as hostages against Blake's return.
Avon: Why, thank you Cally, what a clever idea!
Cally: Blake will return.
Avon: You can bet your life on it. In fact, you've just bet both our lives on it.

Blake: You don't mind staying, do you?
Cally: We must help these people.
Avon: Must we? Personally, I don't care if the whole planet turns into a mushroom.

Cally: My people have a saying: A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.
Avon: Life expectancy must be very short among your people.

Vila: Intensity 27 is a lot of very fast rocks.

Kendall: Someone among us is determined that this mission should fail, and frankly, I can't even guess at a motive.
Avon: Try greed. It's usually reliable. You were carrying something extremely valuable...It would make a man wealthy beyond imagining. Well, it obviously wasn't beyond the imagination of someone here.

Zen: Insufficient data for accurate projection.
Jenna: (to Blake) In other words, he doesn't know.
Zen: Confirmed.

Blake: Have the detectors located the outer edge of the storm yet?
Vila: No. Yes! No. Maybe.
Blake: Which is it?!
Vila: It's maybe.

Grovane: (referring to Sondheim) I saw him with a dagger in his hand.
Avon: But you didn't see him use it.
Grovane: I didn't see Mandrian die either but I know he's dead!

Avon: (after beating up Sara) You'd better get her out of here. I really rather enjoyed that.
