The aftermath of the battle against the alien incursion leaves the Liberator without life support, and the crew scattered in various unknown locations. And then a group of lost Federation soldiers board the Liberator, after its life support system becomes reactivated.

Plus, the Federation has been left in total disarray due to the battle, and even Serverlan is left stranded on a distant uncharted planet. Can the crew unite, and reclaim the Liberator? The odds appear to be against the crew.

Episode Notes

This episode marks the first appearances of Dayna Mellanby (Josette Simon) and Del Tarrant (Steven Pacey) on the series.

This is the first episode in which Gareth Thomas (Blake) and Sally Knyvette (Jenna) do not appear. Consequently, Michael Keating (Vila) is the only actor to have appeared in every episode since the first, "The Way Back," the only episode of the series from which Paul Darrow (Avon) is absent.

Although Del Tarrant was described as being about 35 in the script, Steven Pacey had only just turned 22 when filming of the third series commenced on July 30, 1979.

Marina Sirtis, who would later play Counsellor Deanna Troi in Star Trek: The Next Generation, auditioned for the role of Dayna Mellanby.

This episode introduces an altered opening credits sequence. In the new version, the Liberator is being pursued by three Federation ships. Such a change was required as the original opening credits sequence featured former star Gareth Thomas (Blake) prominently.

Episode Quotes

Avon: At least I'm still alive. If I were dead, I don't think I'd have this blinding headache.

(Dayna kisses Avon)
Avon: What was that for?
Dayna: Curiosity.
Avon: I'm all in favour of healthy curiosity. I hope yours isn't satisfied too easily. I think you've cured my headache.

Avon: I've had enough excitement for a while. Right now a little boredom wouldn't come amiss.

Avon: (to Servalan) Our meeting is the most unlikely happening I could imagine. Therefore, we meet. Surprise seems inappropriate somehow.

(Servalan borrows a dress from Dayna)
Servalan: A bit old-fashioned and not my colour but it'll do very nicely.
Dayna: It's not too young for you?
Servalan: Oh no. I find unsophisticated clothes quite amusing, like unsophisticated people.

Avon: You've got what you wanted, Servalan. Don't expect admiration as well.

Avon: If imagination were my only limit, I'd be dead in a week.

Servalan: You don't win wars by running away and hiding.
