Blue Peter is a long running children's show which deals with many subjects, from entertainment, to famines in Africa, to projects around Britain. The show was first shown on October 16, 1958, with the first ever presenters being Christopher Trace and Leila Williams. The show was very traditional at first with the male presenter focusing on toys and hands-on work, while the female presenter focused on home domestics. Over time the show has reflected the way the world is.
The 4000th edition was broadcast on 14 March 2005. The show is one of the only BBC shows that has every episode in the archives dating back to the 1960's. Probably the most memorable aspect of the show is the theme tune, which has had many remixes over the years.
The show rewards those who have done things for the show by giving them Blue Peter badges, the most high profile of which is the golden Blue Peter badge. This is given to those who have been dedicated to their tasks, for perseverance or campaigning for things. The most notable holder of this badge is Her Majesty The Queen.
