Recap

At the Lazy Ace, Bret is busy moving in 20 years of everything he’s left behind, much to Cy’s disgust. They notice a group of surveyors on the outskirts of the property that have been there for the last week, but no one knows why they’re there. Bret unpacks his Pappy’s rocking chair and sets it up on the porch, and settles in for peaceful hours, while Cy figures that he won’t last come July...

Episode Notes
Bret Maverick reveals in this episode that his old Pappy lived until the age of 93.

Episode Quotes
Pappyism: Importance comes in two sizes: yours and mine.

Bret: Playin' cards without guns is like tryin' to shuffle without thumbs.

Mary Lou: I think I've really misjudged you.
Bret: You've all really misjudged me if you think I'm gonna fold my hand.

Bret: Do you own a dress?
Mary Lou: Nobody reads stories written by people in dresses.

Elijah: Mr. Maverick has a point, although I am not exactly sure which end of the sword it's on.

Bret: Well, I hate to tell 'em "I told you so," but I think I will anyway just 'cause it'll feel so good.

Bret: Yeah, I never had any trouble sleeping. Ever since you gave Crow that money back, I keep tossing and turning all night.
Tom: But look at all the friends you made.
Bret: You can't spend friends.

Episode Goofs
In the final scene, when Jack says that the advance man from the railroad is there, Bret has his hands clasped and is leaning against the bar, but then unclasps them and stands up. In the next long shot, Bret's hands are together and he's leaning again. In the final shot, Bret's hands are apart and he's standing up. Tom's position next to Bret and the position of his arms also changes between shots.

Cultural References
I.T. Austin: We're also considering an alternate route that would bring them on a hundred miles to the north through Bitter Creek.

Bitter Creek was the site of the famous massacre that lead to Jason McCord's shame in the TV series Branded.
