David Callan, played by Edward Woodward
Edward Woodward was brilliant in the role of David Callan, a disillusioned, nervy, brittle man who was nevertheless a trained killer who lived by a different code of ethics to most people. The episode 'Charlie Says It's Goodbye' where he quite cold-bloodedly uses a harpoon to kill a young man, and then expects praise from his newly acquired girlfriend for this action is a case in point.
Nevertheless, he is often at odds with himself and has suffered more than one breakdown in the past because of the nature of the work in which he is involved.
His hobby is making lead soldiers and studying old battles. He is extremely proficient at this and knows their history backwards; at times he has used this hobby to gain a target's trust as demonstrated in the episodes 'A Magnum for Schneider' and 'Act of Kindness' . |
