The new Hunter is located in East Germany.

Callan and Meres are assigned to go and fetch him. The only place where he can cross the border is an area which is heavily mined, and Callan must find a safe way across.

Foreign Secretary: (brandishing map) And apparently just here is a clearing with a track running through it. The only thing between that and freedom is a piece of scrub a hundred yards across.
Meres: No wires, sir?
Foreign Secretary: No wires, Meres. Just a mine field.

Callan: (making introductions) Oh, yeah, Toby Meres - John Ramsay.
Meres: How do you do.
Ramsay: Hello - I suppose you'd better get used to calling me Hunter.
Callan: Don't know about you, Toby - I've had it. (to Ramsay) Would you like to drive, sir?
