KGB agent Lubin gives himself up to the police knowing that he is safe from Hunter's Section in a British prison cell. He has a list of names of British agents working in Europe, all of whom are marked for death, and Callan's name is among them.
Callan arranges for Lonely to be transferred to the same prison as Lubin and he and Cross disguise themselves as KGB Officers and arrange to break Lubin out of prison. They intend to kill him as quickly as possible, but unfortunately Lonely gives the game away and Lubin escapes.

Episode Quotes |
| |
Judge: (to Lonely) I have listened with some astonishment to the catalogue of your crimes. Twenty five offences in such a short space of time - offences commited with great expertise but little intelligence. The evidence of Mr. Callan I must say astonished me also - astonished and delighted. It is indeed a pleasure to learn that honest and upright citizens are willing to devote themselves to the welfare of criminals. Even such utterly case hardened criminals as yourself. Because I have great reliance on Mr. Callan's influence over you and because I am sure that influence will lead to nothing but good and for no other reason I am going to be lenient with you. I sentence you to six months' imprisonment - for each of the twenty five offences - the sentence to run concurrently.
Lonely: (on the way down to the cells with police guard) What's he got to laugh about for?
Policeman: He did all right for you, son.
Lonely: All right? Listen, what is twenty five times a half?
Policeman: Twelve and a half.
Lonely: There y'are then ..
Policeman: Wot?
Lonely: I get sent down for twelve and a half years, he's up there laughing and that Judge said he was gonna be lenient ...
Policeman: (impatiently) You got six months ...
Lonely: (indignantly) Yeah, twenty five times!
Policeman: Concurrent!
Lonely: I know that - anyway it's not the same as hard labour ....
Policeman: Nah, it means you do it all at once. You got sentenced twenty five times ...
Lonely: You're telling me!
Policeman: But you only do six months.
Lonely: Honest?
Policeman: Cross me 'eart.
Lonely: Oh, Mr. Callan is a real mate, isn't he? (bewildered) I still don't get it though.... |
