Is he good? Is he bad? Psychopath or sexy cad? Sinner saint, sinner fell, the sinner wound up in Hell.
From Alan Spencer, the man who created the cop parody
Sledge Hammer!, comes
Bullet in the Face. This all-out parody of crime-action thrillers gives us murderous hitman
Gunter Vogler (Max Williams), who is shot in the face. Police commissioner
Eva Braden (Jessica Steen) arranges for Gunter to receive the transplanted face of the last cop he murdered, the partner of
Karl Hagerman (Neil Roberts). Gunter partners with Karl and gets to work with the police and get back his face if he brings down crimelords
Johann Tannhauser (Eddie Izzard) and
Racken (Eric Roberts). Complicating things is the fact that Gunter's girlfriend
Martine Mahler (Kate Kelton) is the one who shot him, and will stop at nothing to protect her unborn child.
If the plot sounds like nonsense, that's because... well, it is. In the grand tradition of
Airplane!,
Top Secret!,
Police Squad! and... well,
Sledge Hammer!, the plot is just there to hang a series of jokes and hammy acting on. The show takes place in its own little world where anything is possible. Gunter guns down civilians and laughs maniacally at crime scenes, Karl trips over everything and breaks into tears at every opportunity, and bullet fly everywhere. No one notices or even thinks that it's strange. Combine with hammy acting alternating with deadpan lines like, "But I'd like to check out your basement. Where is it?" "In the basement," and you have a classic parody.
