Have You Heard From Johannesburg?

Have You Heard From Johannesburg?

This five-part series chronicles the history of the global anti-apartheid movement that took on South Africa’s entrenched apartheid regime and its international supporters who considered South Africa an ally in the Cold War.

The film is anchored in time and history, but it also provides a broad tour of music from the global movement against the brutal Apartheid regime. We’ve collected a sampling of songs from traditional South African folk songs, and protest songs from famous musicians from Miriam Makeba and Hugh Masekela to U2 and Stevie Wonder. (Source: PBS)

The conclusion of "Have You Heard From Johannesburg?, Free at Last," recalls the end stage of South Africa's apartheid system, when internal and external pressures forced the government to the negotiating table and consent to elections in 1994 that resulted in the once-banned ANC winning a majority in parliament and the once-imprisoned Nelson Mandela becoming president.
