Episode Notes

The character of Hauptmann (Captain) Frans Ulman closely approximates to the real-life Hauptmann Reinhold Eggers, who was Security Officer at Colditz Castle from November, 1940 until April, 1945. Eggers was promoted to Chief of Security in 1944. A schoolmaster in civilian life, Eggers wrote a couple of books about his experiences when the war was over:
Colditz: The German Story. Translated and edited by Howard Gee. New York: Norton, 1961.
Escape from Colditz: Sixteen First Hand Accounts. Compiled by Reinhold Eggers. Edited by John Watton. London: Robert Hale, 1973.
