 "Cowboy Bebop" Summary

So many people try to escape the past because it doesn’t matter anymore. They live their lives in fear that one day the closet will open and their skeletons will be displayed for all to see. But there is a ship floating out in space with four people who see the truth. The past is a reoccurring nightmare; a tangled mess of false realties and self-evident truths that has infiltrated the present as they attempt to flee. This nightmare is responsible for shaping their lives into a hellish purgatory. Meet the four individuals trapped somewhere between heaven and hell:

Spike Spiegel is a bounty hunter and ex-crime syndicate member who ran away from his life of crime. He was a man distraught with the idea of being owned by the syndicate and fled in a search of his own autonomy. Unfortunately for Spike, he escaped with only half of himself as he now scours the Solar System for that part of himself he lost along the way.

Jet Black is an ex-cop who, at one time, had it all. He was a man that was running ahead of the game and never let anything slip on his beat. He was a man of unsurpassed pride as he felt a swelling amount of self-worth build within himself. It was this pride, however, that cost him his arm one night, and led him away from his one true love.

Faye Valentine is a swindler without a past, whose only objective in life is to steal back the life that was taken away from her. She lives a life of vices that cause her to squander her money instead of paying off her debt. She so eagerly lives in the present as she cannot remember her past. She uses self-indulgence to numb away her pain, and to forget about pursuing the search of her past.

Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tirvrusky IV is an odd child who seems to wonder aimlessly. She was abandoned by her father, who apparently forgot he had a daughter, and she went off to live in an orphanage that she just happened to stumble across. Later she abruptly leaves the orphanage, later to join the Bebop crew. It is there she learns how it feels to belong, and eventually, she is reunited with her father.
