I was very pleasantly surprised by C4's The Fear, which is not your average crime thriller. First put off by what I thought was overdoing it a bit on the unlikeable sides of some of the main characters, I was surprised by its themes and how they were handled, ending up watching a very enjoyable four hours. Channel 4 was very cautious with advance information so as not to spoil anything, something that I will stick to as well. The show is a rather intense British crime thriller with very personal elements, so if you like to explore character, you will find some added value in this. "Touching" is an adjective I'd rarely apply to a story of this genre, especially as you're mainly dealing with thoroughly immoral characters. The Fear definitely had some very emotional moments though, and raises questions about perspective on life, and priorities in it. I'm sure it's not very exciting to read me trying to avoid giving away any plot elements, so I will just conclude with a robust recommendation for this four-parter. While not all actors are very convincing throughout, the story helps this miniseries stand out from the rest. It will leave you thinking for quite a while after it has ended, which is one of the best indicators of intriguing characters and quality storytelling.
