Daria and Jane, along with Jane's brother Trent, and his friend Jesse, drive to Alternapalooza. During their trip, Daria becomes attracted to Trent, making them both uncomfortable the entire time. The Fashion Club decide to go to, and even dress "alternative" for the occasion, but go shopping when they pass an outlet mall. Meanwhile, with the girls out of town, Helen and Jake try to "spice up their marriage".

| Trent: Whadda ya think of the song?
Daria: (Voiceover) It has a beat and you can dance to it, if you have no shame. (Spoken) Cool. | Trent: Would it help if we spelled mystik with two Y's?
Daria: (Voiceover) And I'll spell my name D-A-R-Y-A and be crowned Miss America. (Spoken) It might. | Trent: Daria, do you ever feel like maybe you're wasting your life?
Daria: Only when I'm awake. | Helen: (about the tattoo) Quinn, what is that thing on your arm?
Quinn: Don't worry, Mom. It's fake.
Daria: Aww, you got a tattoo to match your personality. |

| When Trent is talking to Daria, his goatee disappears then reappears. Later when the two are talking, his tattoo disappers then reappears as well. | When Daria and Jane are in the basement, Jane's tights disappear then reappear. | Daria bumps her head getting out of the van, and holds the left side of her head afterwards. Later, the bruise shows up on her forehead. | When Jane first gets in the van, she has to duck. But later, Jane stands up inside of the van. |

Alternapalooza is a play on the Lollapalooza tour popular in the 1990s. | Daria: I'm ready for my abuse, Mr. DeMille.
This is a play on the line "All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up" from the movie Sunset Boulevard. | Daria: Wasn't Altamont free?
Altamont was a concert near California's Altamont Speedway in which a teenaged girl pulled out a gun near the stage where The Rolling Stones were playing. She was killed by a Hell's Angels gang member and 3 other people were killed during the course of the concert. |
