Wow, I couldn't bear more than 2 minutes of this disgusting show. Can you say "unfit parents"? I feel sorry for these kids, they'd be lucky if child protection services came to take them away and place them in another family. Bad parenting doesn't cover it. I don't see much of a difference between this—exploiting and abusing children so their "mothers" and trainers can win some stupid competition to give them a sense of meaning—and straight-out child labour.
Here's an idea: care for your child, so maybe if it grows to be a sociable, responsible and healthy adult, you'd have a REAL accomplishment, rather than some crappy trophy at the price of a broken childhood.
I wish these poor girls the strength to, when they grow up, realise what their parents have been doing to them, process it, and find a way to nevertheless become a strong person and feel happy about themselves.
As for the show itself, it's terribly cynical that through its editing and soundtrack, it is presented as just another uplifting reality show about "making it". It is sickening to watch for anyone with a glint of morals. That it is, of all places, "The Learning Channel" that airs this atrocity is the pinnacle of irony.
