At the Legendary Warriors' hideout, Mercurymon walks in on Arbormon working out. After a brief conversation, Arbormon departs. Mercurymon then secretly looks at Seraphimon's fractal code and states that now that he has it, the Digital World will bow before him. Unknown to Mercurymon, Duskmon overhears.
A little while later, Ranamon, Mercurymon, and Arbormon gather for Cherubimon's arrival. Mercurymon gives him all the fractal code that they have collected so far, although he secretly holds onto Seraphimon's code. To Mercurymon's horror, Cherubimon reveals that he knows that he didn't receive Seraphimon's code. However, Cherubimon then tells him that he can count it as a gift that can be taken back at any time. After Cherubimon states that the gang is getting stronger now that they have their Beast Spirits, Arbormon volunteers to get rid of them.
Elsewhere, the gang is riding a Trailmon towards the Rose Morning Star. In the distance, Zoe notices that the sky is dark, although it is the middle of the day. The Trailmon suddenly stops and forces them to get off, announcing that it's the end of the line. Farther down the tracks, Bokomon sees the Dark Gate, the entrance to the Continent of Darkness. Unfortunately, there is nothing in Bokomon's book about it. Bokomon then reveals that many digimon have entered, but none have returned. To Bokomon's horror, the gang decides to journey through the Continent of Darkness, which is the shortest way to the Rose Morning Star.
After a few hours of walking, Tommy sees something glowing in the distance. The gang then investigates. Meanwhile, Mercurymon questions how Cherubimon knew that he had Seraphimon's code. Duskmon then appears, and when Mercurymon mentions Duskmon's absence at the meeting with Cherubimon, Duskmon replies that being there doesn't prove loyalty. After Mercurymon responds by saying that he hasn't even stepped onto the battlefield yet, Duskmon decides to face the gang.
Back on the Dark Continent, the gang discovers that what was glowing is actually moss. They then use it to light their way and eventually come to a cave. However, before they enter, they notice digimon hiding in a nearby tree. The digimon then begin repeating everything the gang says. Zoe comes up with the idea of using tongue-twisters to mess them up, but the digimon are too good. Frustrated, Koji throws his moss at the tree, revealing the digimon to be Pipismon. Bokomon explains that the bat-like Pipismon can reflect sound back exactly as it is heard. After the Pipismon fly into the cave and go to sleep, the gang reminds Bokomon that he is the first digimon to explore the Dark Continent. He then happily agrees to write in his book about the Dark Continent and the gang's adventures.
Before they can continue their journey, Arbormon arrives. After easily defeating the Pipismon and taking their fractal code, Arbormon Beast Spirit Evolves. The gang does the same, but before they can attack, Petaldramon eats a tree and becomes much larger! No matter what attack they use, he keeps regenerating. Petaldramon manages to subdue them, but before he can launch his final attack, Koji/KendoGarurumon blasts him in the face. The gang then manages to knock him over, and Takuya/BurningGreymon and Zoe/Zephyrmon combine their attacks. After Petaldramon returns to normal size, his fractal code appears. Koji/KendoGarurumon Spirit Evolves into Lobomon and then takes his Beast Spirit, reverting him back to Arbormon.
Out of the shadows steps Duskmon, and Arbormon happily states that the cavalry has arrived. However, after telling Arbormon that he is useless without a Beast Spirit, Duskmon destroys him and takes his Spirit!
