Dinnerladies takes us through the life and times of a works canteen staff, located somewhere in the north of England. Written by Victoria Wood's masterful hands, this is one of the finest, bittersweet working-class comedies seen on British TV.

The staff are an interesting but 'normal' hard-working bunch. The manager, Brenda (Bren), is sensible and dedicated; Dolly and Jean are endlessly bantering, competitive middle-aged women; Anita is gormless but well intentioned; and Twinkle is sluttish and sharp-tongued but decent underneath.
